We still get a number of phone calls every week, so this page was developed to help those wanting to find work in the Mining Industry. There have been a number of articles written, along with segments viewed on TV in relation to Work in the Mining Sector, namely, how you can make a tonne of money. Well…. the making money part is certainly true in most cases; however getting started is often the hard part.
Most people who ring us are fairly new to the Mining Industry and are looking to make that start by get a Dump Truck or Dozer Ticket. Sadly it just doesn’t work like that, so hold on to your money. Beware though, there are Training Organisations out there claiming to fast track you into the Mining Industry or at the very least guarantee you a job operating your dream Excavator once you have completed one of their courses, this of course is after you’ve handed over an enormous amount of your hard earned money. We often hear this, and sadly it’s still on going today. In most cases, these organisations are only interested in transferring the money from your bank account into theirs. The fact is, that most Real Big Mining Companies won’t even look at you and your newly founded dozer ticket you acquired in a record 3-4 days. It simply comes down to a lack of experience on that machine. 3-4 days just isn’t enough time to give someone the experience required to go out and operate these big machines in a mine. My advice to you would be start at the bottom and work your way up.
Now how do you get a start you ask? Well you may have to take on a job in the Mining Industry that’s not quite what you expected, such as: Pit Tech, Stick Picker, Stores person, Blast Crew Labourer, Drillers offsider, Trades Assistant and so on. These types of jobs will certainly get you a start in a mine somewhere, and from there you can decide if being an operator of heavy earthmoving machines on a mine site is for you.
Invest a bit of time developing or up dating your Resume, E.g. Operating Experiences, Tickets, Certificates of Competency, Courses you have completed Work History, and References Etc. Having a current Police Clearance and Drivers Licence will certainly help as well.
Below is a list of Employment Agencies along with the person to contact here in Kalgoorlie, and believe me if anyone knows what’s happening around here in the way of work, it’s these people. Employing Personnel is what they specialise in, so if you are serious about making a start in Mining, I would strongly suggest you check out all these Agencies below, check out their web site, send them your current Resume, give them a call or send them an E-Mail. Just for the record though, No one here is going to guarantee you a job, but it is certainly a good place to make a start.
There are also a few mining companies around that still conducting training programs or take on new personnel to the mining industry and train them up as operators so ask the question when you contact these agencies.
